Comments and Challenge 6
Finally got round to letting throuh some of the more oobcious hints for Challenge 6b, though by now they are probably not needed. Anyway, if your masterpiece of a cryptic clue is still missing it just means it gave too much away. It might be worth trawling back through the comments if you want to see what you have been missing.

Thanks Matthew I will check the teachers pack on Monday, as I am still not very far forward. I understand most of the clues offered but cannot see how to relate them to the ciphertext that I have got. Tried caesar square and shifting the letters so many times along but still get rubbish. Did not do last years so I do not have that knowledge, hope I have better luck next year.

*at Martyn* You finished it?! Aw man! First time in weeks we're ahead of you and you've overtook us! We're still deciphering... But there's always next time... *evil laugh*

please help me, Harry and everyone who has done it. WHAT DO ALL THE CLUES MEAN, I JUST FEEL MORE AND MORE LOST AND CONFUSED. I'VE CRIED OVER IT, I'VE LOST SLEEP, I CAN'T CONCENTRATE ON ANYTHING ELSE. there are so many clues which all say different things, i don't know which one to focus on. am i really thick or something because after all those hints, i still feel just as lost as i did when 6b first came out. and i have done 6a. did it in 10 minutes, but i don't understand what that plaintext is telling me, even after reading it about 100 times.
[See my comment on the boat's log. harry]

Lara and Richard, I don't know if you did last year's challenge, but it's probably not as cryptic for those of us who did. We're saying "Ah, the encrypted text is in a ****** and the instructions say to *****, so that must means that we should do THIS. It's a pity that the links to last year's competition are mostly broken....
As far as not knowing any old European ciphers, check the Teacher's Pack because you might find an interesting lead there. But you've got to figure out the twist first.

Does nothing work on this stupid string of letters? I've tried so many things without sucess... reflection, rotation, transposition swawpping rows and columns etc ...
[Ah, then you have been half way there already. Harry]

lara, have you done 6a? i haven't yet because i haven't had time but lots of people have been saying in the comments that the last bit of it contains a clue which helps you to work it out. hope that helps

I know just how you feel, I can't get it. We must be missing something. Everyone says read it, well I have and still something is not getting through. Of course when you know it, it makes sense.
