The reflector's purpose is merely to ensure that the same machine, with the same settings can be encrypt or decrypt a message i.e. with rotor positions A A A, if you type E and get L, then if you had typed L you would have got E. It makes decrypting / encrypting much easier - but wouldn't be necessary for the purpose of the challenge. It would just make the cipher slightly more complicated for us! - so hopefully it won't happen.

1) When they have more clues (by v basic, do you mean very basic, or Visual BASIC?) :p
2) Probably not. After all Harry said the challenge was aimed at A level age
3) Not necessarily
4) Yes, what do you think it might be? How is the message likely to begin? You might want to read back in the comments a bit.
5) Disastrous.

Google has always been my friend :) The only thing I'm having trouble with is what the reflector specifically does, but I'm sure Harry's details in 8A will compensate for that.

When is it reasonably possible for a 13 yr old to crack it using v basci programming and pencil/(pen:P)and paper?

Should i have worked it out yet?

Should i kno part of the matrix yet?
or just the first bit of the plaintext?

Sum1 help me plz, just give me sumwhere 2 start
