A chance for fame and fortune

Do you want your school's name in lights? Fancy a chance to win £100? Then make a short You Tube video about your experience with the Cipher Challenge - something that briefly catches the spirit of the competition and that we can link to on the front page to sell the Challenge to schools that have never tried it. The competition is open until Mid-day on Wednesday 10th October, so you have a week to get it done. You could interview teachers or participants, take shots of the teams tackling the problems - anything you like. We are looking for energy, enthusiasm and raw movie-making talent. Put your tweed cap on back to front, grease your clapperboard and fire up that camera. Lights, cameras, ACTION!

Once you have made your movie and posted it to You Tube send us an email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with the subject line Our Movie. Good Luck, Harry

(Terms and conditions apply: They should all be obvious, but do ask if you are not sure about something. The main ones are that the prize will be paid to the school and that to qualify for it you have to give us permission to use the video on our website and that implies consent of all those taking part.)

The clock is ticking - literally

We are as excited as you are as the clock ticks down to 3.15pm today and the start of the first Challenge. Remember that the points for Challenge 1B and Challenge 2B won't count for the Overall Leader Board, so you can regard this as a practice. On the other hand we have set time points for both challenges just to check the system and so you can see how it works, and will publish Leader Boards for them just for fun. You can check the points schedule for each Part B challenge by clicking the link on the index card next to it, and you can bring up a text only window containing the text of each challenge by clicking on its title on the typewriter page showing it. This might help if you have trouble selecting the beautiful typewritten text on the page.

The clock on the Submit a Solution page should show you what time we think it is, and when you submit your anwer (instruciton on the rules page) you will get an onscreen receipt of your submission and timestamp. You can print this or save it however you wish and keep it safe. You can Get Feedback on your submission for Challenge 1 A and Challenge 1B from 9am tomorrow (Friday) and it will update at the end of each time period.

Hope you enjoy the first round!

All the best,

Harry

Points for Challenge 1B

Remember that the points for Challenges 1B and 2B will not count for your overall school in the part B challenge this year, but just to get you in the mood we will award the following "accuracy" points for Challenge 1B. Remember that it is your most accurate answer that counts:

Points Scheme for Challenge 1 Part B

(Note that there is no point scheme for part A)
