Dont forget that Challenge 2 runs for two weeks (to cover the half term) so you still have til midnight next Wednesday to crack it. The first two challenges should be thought of as a “warm-up” exercise and will not count in the final leader board rankings or for the award of main prizes, however it is still worth tackling rounds one and two as they give excellent practice and do develop the storyline.
Not a bad start!
We have 536 schools registered for the Challenge and 403 of them entered for Challenge 1. Overall 3549 of you have signed up to help Harry in his game of Berlin Hide and Seek. If you took part in Challenge 1 you should be able to find your name or team on the Leader Board and you will be able to download a certificate from early next week.
As in previous years we are distributing small prizes to teams at random in each challenge. If you can solve part A you will be in with a change of winning one.

With over 2,000 of you all trying to access the site at once the server decided to go on strike. Apologies that you were not able to get in at that point. We did eventually get enough control to put up a holding page with the Challenges on, and we also posted an image of the text on twitter, so hopefully you all had a chance to try to decipher the first messages.
You have until midnight tomorow (Friday) to get full marks for Challenge 1 and the site should be up for you to post your submissions by the morning. If you can't get onto the site please don't panic and keep trying to reload the page, that just adds stress to an already strained system and makes it harder for everyone to get in. In case you didn't notice, the first couple of challenges don't contribute to your competition score anyway, they are just practice rounds.
We have brought in a more powerful machine tonight and are testing it for deployment for tomorrow, so hopefully the problem won't recur anyway, but just in case do subscribe to the Twitter feed https://twitter.com/Cipher_Master to get all the latest updates.
Thanks for your patience and good luck with the challenge,
