When you register with the National Cipher Challenge, our system will send you an email containing a link to confirm your email address. Once you click on that link it will then send you a password for the site. Every year we get lots of emails bounced back because the email address is incorrect. For example a typical error message might look like

The recipient's e-mail address was not found in the recipient's e-mail system. Microsoft Exchange will not try to redeliver this message for you. Please check the e-mail address and try resending this message, or provide the following diagnostic text to your system administrator.

The following organization rejected your message: mx2.hotmail.com

In such cases there is nothing we can do. So if you have tried to register and haven't received an email from the system (usually within a few minutes but give it an hour or so just in case) then you should try to register again and make sure that your email address is correct.

Another problem that frequently occurs is that the recipients email system is not working correctly. This year in particular, a large number of emails to students with email addresses that include This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.' have been returned as there is a problem with the email system. Again we have no control over this and in cases such as this you will have to consult the people who maintain your email system.

If you are sure that you have typed your email address correctly and that your system is correctly configured then the third possibility is that our emails to you are being treated as Spam by your email client. In this case you may find it useful to put the email address This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.' in your email address book.
